Along comes a spider...

So, I'm having my morning coffee and reading the newspaper when along comes a spider... have you ever seen a Jewel spider? They're quite prevalent in Edmonton this year. I'd seen these wee buggers last year, but in small numbers around the outside of the house. This year, I must have twelve to fifteen of them all around the house. I live near the outskirts of Edmonton and I don't know if that means that they are more common here than in the metro area, but it's probably the case. Anyway, they are large enough to make me wary, yet as they are a member of the orb weaver family, they are not really dangerous. The smaller hobo spider and brown recluse spiders are much more of a problem, in terms of their venom. Still, I like to leave them well enough alone. I'd be even happier if they didn't try to read the paper at the same time I'm trying to do so!
