It's been a while now since the tragic death of The Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin. Many have commented on his death, with most of the commentary that I've read having been decent, heartfelt, and positive in regards to the man's life and legacy. Some pundits and critics have been ignorant and shameful in their comments, lamenting the public's interest in, and love for, the man. Some harsh critics have also completely missed the point Steve Irwin was trying to make. Human beings are just a part of this amazing world and we, as human beings, have a duty and responsibility to treat the living world and all of the creatures in it with respect, admiration, and care. We fail to do this far more often than is good for the world or us at large.

If we choose to ignore Steve Irwin's message —— a message which is also spoken by dedicated men and women around the world —— we do so at our own peril. The world we leave for our children will be a much poorer and sadder place if we do not heed the warnings of the Crocodile Hunter and his ilk.

Rest in peace mate.
