Vimy Ridge 90 Years Later

Canada celebrates the anniversary of victory at the battle of Vimy Ridge, in northern France, that occurred in April 1917. Many historians consider this battle to be the formative moment in the young nation of Canada, as all four divisions in the battle were Canadian, and fighting together for the first time.
The monument is located on land that a grateful French nation ceded to Canada as "the free gift in perpetuity of the French nation to the people of Canada."
